Letter from the Attorney General September 22

Dear Colleagues,

Thank you all for joining me in our Town Hall this week! It was lovely to see you, and I look forward to doing more events like this in the future.

This week, I appeared before the state legislature to testify on several bills that would expand the tools of our office to ensure we are the most impactful in serving our residents.

On Tuesday, I was joined by FLD Chief Lauren Moran to testify in support of An Act to Prevent Wage Theft. As you know, it has been a consistent priority of this office to tackle wage theft, and through our support of this bill, we are continuing our commitment to hold those who violate our wage laws liable. The hard-working employees of Massachusetts, who show up every day and give their all to their jobs, are what drive our economy, and their hard work should never go without the compensation they are entitled to.

On Wednesday, alongside HCD Chief Sandy Wolitzky, I testified in support of An Act to Advance Health Equity, an issue our office has persistently fought for. Despite setbacks from the Supreme Court, this office has consistently shown up and used its tools to promote equity in our health care system, and we will continue to strive for lawful and commonsense policies that do just that.

And finally on Thursday, I was joined by ETD’s Liz Anderson and CARD’s Melissa Armstrong in testifying in support of An Act Relative to Electric Ratepayer Protections. We have seen again and again that Massachusetts residents – especially those in communities of color and low-income communities – are being targeted by competitive electric suppliers through deceptive marketing tactics. These residents who have suffered millions of dollars in losses deserve justice and accountability, and we will continue to fight on their behalf.

I want to extend a huge thank you to those who joined me in testifying. Your work is what moves us forward. I also would like to extend gratitude to the P&G team, Anne Landry, Shane Blundell, Danielle Allard, Alex Gray, Lisa Sears, Robert Fernandez, and Shea Nash, for their incredible work in executing our advocacy to the legislature. None of this could happen without you.

Enjoy the incoming autumn weather this weekend.

With tremendous gratitude,

Andrea
