Letter from the Attorney General November 3

Dear colleagues,

This week, the office took steps to protect young people both here in the Commonwealth and across the country. As Attorney General, but also as a mother of two, advocating for our youth remains a priority. I’m proud of the work we continue to do in this space and want to extend gratitude to all those who have helped these efforts.

Our Fair Labor Division resolved two matters concerning thousands of child labor violations against Dunkin’ franchisees this week, which resulted in citations for a combined total of $1 million. Approximately $500,000 from one of the matters will go toward a fund administered by our office for the enforcement and education of wage and hour laws, including the education and training of young workers.

I also had the honor to co-lead a multistate coalition to support safety and inclusion for LGBTQ+ youth in schools. Now more than ever it is necessary we help create welcoming environments within our schools. To do that, books and curriculum that explore our diverse country and encourage acceptance of all individuals should remain and be celebrated in schools. I am proud to join 18 other attorneys general in advocating for LGBTQ+ youth in their respective states and across the country.

Thank you to FLD, CRD and OSS for their work on these issues, and to all of you for your continued commitment to protecting the health and well-being of our young people.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

With tremendous gratitude,

Andrea
