Letter from the Attorney General December 8
Dear colleagues,
This week, our office filed suit against the neo-Nazi group known as NSC-131 for engaging in violent, threatening, and intimidating conduct and violating our civil rights laws. The complaint alleges specific violations targeted at the LGBTQ+ community and recently arrived immigrants, but it also details a pattern of disruptive, violent conduct that threatens us all. The threat posed by this group and its leaders is one that everyone in Massachusetts should be concerned about.
Our complaint is the first step in holding this neo-Nazi group and its leaders accountable for their discriminatory, disruptive, and unlawful actions against members of our community. The Office will continue to do all it can to protect our residents’ and visitors’ civil rights and public safety.
Massachusetts law protects all people, regardless of their identity, immigration status, or any other factor, and it protects people from discrimination and harassment on the basis of protected characteristics. We will continue to do all that we can to ensure that residents know their rights and are protected and that the public understands that discrimination will not be tolerated here. Our state is known to be a welcoming, safe, and inclusive place to live. With strong laws that protect civil rights and public safety, we have diverse and vibrant communities that allow our residents, our economy, and our cultural fabric to thrive – we must do what it takes to keep it that way.
Many thanks to those in the Civil Rights Division who have worked so hard on this matter – you know who you are! And thank you to those in the Civil Investigations Division, Digital Evidence Lab, Exec and Comms who assisted with the investigation and announcement.
I am proud to be a part of an office that stands against bullies and is not afraid to stand up for justice. Thank you all for the work that you do to improve and protect the lives of our people while ensuring that everyone will continue to feel safe and welcomed in Massachusetts.
Happy Hannukah to those who celebrate! Wishing you all a wonderful weekend and holiday season.
With tremendous gratitude,
Andrea
