Letter from the Attorney General August 18
Dear colleagues,
This week I had the honor to engage in an incredible conversation with the recipients of our Maternal Health Equity Grant. The recipients consist of 11 organizations that are committed to eradicating maternal health racial disparities and supporting birthing people all across the Commonwealth.
With this grant, these organizations have the opportunity to expand their work including expanding access to: doulas, breastfeeding supports, culturally competent care pre-and post-natal, perinatal behavioral health support and more.
While the entire team appreciated learning about the progress these organizations are making on these critical issues, all acknowledged there is still more work to do. We each have a role to play in addressing the maternal health crisis in Massachusetts where Black birthing people experience the highest rates of death and labor and delivery complications compared to any other race and ethnicity. And I’m proud that our office is doing our part by providing much needed funds to non-profit organizations across the entire Commonwealth.
I want to thank Maeva Veillard, Nathan Gardner, Allison Beaufort, Amanda Hainsworth, Sandy Wolitzky, Courtney Aladro, Nicole Caravella, Molly McGlynn, Max German, Kaitlyn Solares, Ella Hamilton, Steph Ware, Shane Blundell, and Sherry Riva for their hard work in developing and organizing this grant, and putting together the fantastic event at the Whittier Street Community Health Center.
Have a wonderful weekend!
With tremendous gratitude,
Andrea
