Letter from the Attorney General September 14

Dear Colleagues,

In response to the influx of migrants coming to Massachusetts, this week our office announced a $750,000 Immigrant Legal Services Grant Program. The goal of the program is to increase the capacity of nonprofit legal services organizations that provide crucial services to new arrivals in Massachusetts. Our funding of nonprofit legal services and community partners will directly support migrants and afford them basic necessities, protections, and opportunities to support their families and contribute to our economy.

Applicants of the grant program may propose programs that: implement new technology solutions or upgrades to case management systems to increase efficiency and effectiveness; leverage relationships with law schools, law firms, shelters or community-based organizations to provide more expansive services; provide clinics or other services to help new arrivals access immigration-related legal relief; and/or equip staff with mobile workspace supplies and equipment to expand their reach.

I especially want to thank Abby Taylor and Nathan Gardner for their incredible work in developing this program, and thank you all for your ongoing commitment to ensure Massachusetts remains welcoming to all.

Stay diligent and safe with respect to the weather, and enjoy your weekend!

With tremendous gratitude,

Andrea
