Letter from the Attorney General December 15
Dear colleagues,
In the last few weeks, our office has taken additional steps to address the issue of gun violence to ensure residents feel safe in our state and across the country.
As you know, here in Massachusetts, we have some of the strongest gun safety laws in the country, and the team continues to work hard to defend those laws while informing and supporting policy changes across the country.
I am proud to have co-led a multistate coalition of 21 attorneys general in support of a proposed Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) rule that would ensure more gun sales are subject to background checks thus reducing illegal gun trafficking.
Additionally, I had the honor to co-lead another coalition of 20 attorneys general in supporting California’s defense of its assault weapons ban. I remain grateful that this office is committed not only to defending our gun laws but also extending our expertise and experience to efforts to protect laws in other states. I
also want to acknowledge that this is an incredibly busy time of year, not only in the office but in our lives. I hope all of you are finding moments to enjoy the holiday season with family, friends and colleagues.
Lastly, I look forward to seeing and celebrating you all next Tuesday at our annual Winter Meeting in Worcester.
Have a wonderful weekend!
With tremendous gratitude, Andrea
